What to Do and What Not to Do When Cooking Under Pressure

Like any advanced kitchen tool, understanding the correct use of your Royal Prestige® Pressure Cooker is essential to avoid accidents and achieve the results you want in every meal. Follow these simple recommendations to use it safely and efficiently.

CORRECT USE

1. Review Your Product Manual
Before your first use, read the product manual thoroughly and become familiar with all instructions and safety guidelines.

2. Prepare It for First Use
To get your pressure cooker ready, wash it with hot water, dish soap, and ¼ cup of vinegar. Using a sponge or kitchen cloth, clean the lid, the pressure containment system, and the pot. When cooking, always add at least 1 cup of liquid and do not fill the cooker more than 2/3 of its capacity.

3. Close the Lid Properly
Ensure the lid is correctly positioned to prevent steam or pressure leaks. The cooker will only build pressure if the knob is turned fully to the closed position. Never force the lid; when aligned correctly, it will slide smoothly into place.

4. Make Sure All Pressure Is Released
Before opening the lid, release the pressure completely by turning the regulator valve. Use oven mitts or kitchen gloves to protect yourself from hot steam.

5. Open the Lid Carefully
Once all pressure has been released, open the lid slowly to avoid spills or splashes. Keep your hands and face away from the steam path and protect yourself from heat as needed.

6. Care for and Store Properly
After each use, wash all components thoroughly, dry immediately, and store the cooker with the lid inverted and the gasket loose. Refer to the product manual for more detailed cleaning instructions.

INCORRECT USE

1. Do Not Use for Foods It’s Not Designed For
Avoid pressure-cooking foods that foam or splatter, such as applesauce, cranberries, cereals, pasta, and some legumes, unless a recipe specifically instructs how to do so safely. These can clog safety mechanisms.

2. Never Move or Force Open the Cooker
Moving the cooker while pressurized may cause spills or rapid pressure changes. Do not open the lid if the cooker is hot or still under pressure. Do not tamper with the safety mechanisms or unscrew any parts of the lid or pot.

3. Avoid Rapid Cooling Methods
Do not place the cooker under cold water or apply quick cooling methods. Allow pressure to reduce naturally, unless your manual states otherwise.

4. Keep Out of Reach of Children
This helps prevent burns, scalds, and other injuries.

For more information, always refer to and follow your Product Manual. With the right care and usage, you’ll master the art of safe pressure cooking with your Royal Prestige® Pressure Cooker – enjoying delicious meals with complete peace of mind.
