How to Overcome the Fear of Cooking with a Pressure Cooker

Do you feel nervous when it’s time to use your pressure cooker? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many people feel unsure at first, but with the right information and safety practices, you can cook confidently and safely with your Royal Prestige® Pressure Cooker.  

A safe environment is essential in your home, so let’s walk through the key safety points that help you trust your pressure cooker and get the most out of it. 

Can the lid explode or fly off? 

This is a common fear, but rest assured: your Royal Prestige® Pressure Cooker includes built-in safety systems designed to prevent dangerous situations such as burns or pressure buildup.  

However, it’s important to use the cooker correctly and always pay attention to: 

  • Heat level 
  • Amount of liquid 
  • Proper locking of the lid 
  • Controlled pressure release 

Before using your pressure cooker for the first time, read your Product Manual carefully and keep it for future reference. 

Always monitor the cooker while it’s in use. 

Stop using the cooker and contact our Service Center immediately if: 

  • You see steam leaking from the safety window 
  • The cooker has been dropped or appears damaged 
  • The cooker makes unusual noises 
  • The lid, gasket, or valves show signs of wear 
  • Any function does not match what is described in the manual  

Can I open the lid at any time? 

No. The pressure cooker should never be opened while under pressure. Do not force the lid open; if it does not open easily, it likely still has pressure inside. 

Once the regulator valve is steadily releasing steam, avoid touching: 

  • The valve 
  • The locking pin 
  • Any mechanism intended to release pressure 

For safety, only open the lid after the cooking process is complete and the pressure has been fully released. 

Never move the cooker while it is hot or pressurized, and keep your hands and face away from the steam path to avoid burns. 

Do I need to maintain it in a specific way? 

Yes, and it’s simple. Proper cleaning and maintenance are key to safe and efficient use.

  • Ensure the valves and gasket are clean and free of residue 
  • Inspect the gasket and safety components regularly 

Never tamper with the safety mechanisms or remove any screws on the cooker. This can compromise its performance and safety. 

Can I cook all recipes in a pressure cooker? 

Not all ingredients are ideal for pressure cooking. Foods that foam or splatter – such as applesauce, cranberries, oatmeal, pasta, and some legumes – can block the safety valves unless a recipe specifically indicates how to cook them safely.
