Royal Prestige Scholarship FAQ
Do I have to be Hispanic/Latino to apply?
Yes. You or your family (parents, grandparents) must be descendants of one of the following countries: Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic or Brazil. Students from Belize, Guyana, Portugal, Surinam or French Guyana are not considered Hispanic.
Do you have a minimum GPA requirement?
Yes. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on the 4.0 scale.
Graduating High School Seniors
Your transcript should include your GPA on the 4.0 scale for ninth through eleventh grade. If your GPA is not calculated on the 4.0 scale, please download the GPA Certification Form and have your counselor complete it. This should be scanned and uploaded in the same file as your transcript.
Community College Transfer Students
Transcript must report a cumulative GPA for a minimum of 12 units/credits earned. If you are a first year community college student at the time of application, you should submit your final high school transcript that reports your cumulative GPA through the end of senior year.
Undergraduate Students
Transcripts must include a cumulative GPA for a minimum of 12 units/credits earned. If you are a first year undergraduate student at the time of application, you should submit your final high school transcript that reports your cumulative GPA through the end of senior year.
Do I have to be a US citizen or legal permanent resident to apply?
No. All Hispanic/Latino students are welcome to apply.
I am a refugee or have established asylum status. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes. Applicants must submit a valid I94 at the time of submission of their application. The I94 must be stamped as: Refugee, Asylum Status, Conditional Entrant, Parolee or Cuban Haitian Entrant.
I have an International Student Visa or Work Visa. Am I eligible to apply?
No. Visas are a temporary status and can have limited stay within the U.S.
I am a high school student. When can I apply?
High school seniors can begin to apply for scholarships at the beginning of their senior year.
I am older than the traditional college student. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes. Our scholarships are not age-based. Students may apply as long as they meet all the eligibility requirements, regardless of age. You will need to use your most recent school information when you are asked for "current" school information.
Is the Royal Prestige Scholarship open to community college students?
Yes, this scholarship program is open to all students at the community college level, including those who intend to transfer to a four-year institution in the following academic year.
I am enrolled as a part-time student. Am I eligible to apply?
Applicants may be enrolled part-time at the time of application. However, students must be enrolled full-time in order to be eligible to receive funding. HSF verifies enrollment before scholarship awards are disbursed.
I am a home-schooled student. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes. In addition to submitting all required documents, home-schooled applicants must submit a copy of their official results from either the SAT I or ACT test.
I received a General Education Diploma (GED). Am I eligible to apply?
Yes. In addition to submitting all required documents, GED applicants must submit a copy of their official results from either the SAT I or ACT test.
I attend(ed) a high school or university in another country. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes. Transcripts that are not in English must be accompanied by an official English translation on a 4.0 scale. Your school should provide an official translation; otherwise have a translation done by your school or an official translator. Once they are translated please submit the international transcripts along with a copy of the translation. For more information on translating foreign transcripts you can visit either www.ece.org or www.wes.org.
I am concurrently enrolled at more than 1 institution. Am I eligible to apply?
You can apply to our programs if you are currently attending more than 1 institution. In order to be considered for the scholarships you do need to be attending full-time the upcoming academic year at an institution.
I am pursuing my 2nd Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree. Am I eligible to apply?
No. In line with our vision, to strengthen America by advancing higher education for Hispanic Americans, HSF wishes to increase the number of Hispanics earning their first college degree.
